Mother of the Year Award? Ummm… not hardly.

Julia E. Laack, 36, of Sheboygan, Wisconsin isn’t going to win any nominations for Mother of the Year this time, and probably won’t earn membership to Mensa for her intelligence. Unless stripping naked to avoid arrest earns points for qualification.

Mrs. Laack was observed shoplifting, swearing at and shoving her son, blaming her son for the incident, kicking and spitting at police officers, resisting arrest, mooning passersby from the back of the squad car, and stripping naked in front of her children and officers. Laack claimed that if she were naked, then police would not be able to arrest her.

According to the criminal complaint, surveillance video at a convenience store recorded Mrs. Laack putting a package of beef jerky into her purse while shopping with her husband and two children. At the checkout counter, she also stuffed a lighter into the back of her pants. When police arrived at her home later, she refused to answer the door and was observed screaming and swearing at her children, one of whom she said she would “beat his butt” for causing the incident, then began shoving him. Police entered the home and attempted to calm her down. Laack then stripped to her underwear, with the children present, telling police they could not arrest her if she was naked. She then tried to punch an officer and was wrestled to the ground. She kicked one officer in the groin, and spitted into the mouth of another. On her way to the police station, she pressed her bare buttocks against the window of the squad car, and told one officer that her children “were going to die.”

The complaint said Laack’s blood alcohol level was 0.112 percent, nearly 1-1/2 times the legal limit for driving. She is charged with felony battery of a police officer, misdemeanor retail theft, resisting an officer, and two counts of disorderly conduct. The charges carry a maximum penalty of five years in jail, if she is convicted on all counts. Information about her bond amount was not readily available.
